I received the following in my email box this morning.  And for some reason, it sent me completely over the edge, to the VERY BOTTOM of the deep end.

Items to ConsiderJan 21, 2008

Dear Davie-O & Mama Stah,

When we begin looking for a home, we often get wrapped up in the important details like style, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and square footage. But we don’t always consider the quality of life issues that may impact our ability to enjoy the home. Here are some other things you should keep in mind:

* Transportation is an important consideration that’s often overlooked. Consider traffic jams and gas prices, and assess public transportation options and commute times.
* Public safety has loomed larger as a factor in our quality of life. Proximity to police, fire and emergency medical services has become more important.
* Off-street parking is a factor in many areas. Is there a garage? How many cars will it hold? Is there parking available when you have guests or entertain?
* Recreational facilities such as playgrounds, parks, and pools are important to many people. Are they nearby? Is there a fee for these amenities?

Be realistic. There are no perfect homes. Decide what’s most important to you, and make sure you find a home that has the essential features that you require. Be prepared to compromise on some of the items on your wish list.

Buying a home is much more permanent than renting. Purchase a home that you are prepared to keep for a while. Select a home that will be reasonable to maintain, in terms of both utilities and repairs.

These are just a few of the things to think about as you choose a new home. When you’re ready to purchase a home, I’ll be happy to answer any questions about the area and help you find a house that truly feels like a home to you.

Sincerely,

*****

Here’s the thing:  this came to MY email address, and it’s address to both Davie-O and me.  I have absolutely no idea who the person was who sent me this email, and it puzzled and angered me as to how they got my email address and knew enough to add Davie-O’s name.  I fumed over this for a while and figured that someone just might have used the lovely little neighborhood directory in a way that is supposedly prohibited.  It’s supposed to be used “as a tool to promote the spirit of neighborliness and community”.  (I only added that part because I find it amusing…)

And because I was still floundering the the afore mentioned deep end, I shot off this email:

I have absolutely no idea how you go my email address, as I have no idea who you are.  I find it very irritating that you are sending me spam.
I am not in the market for a new home, and if I were, I would most certainly NEVER consider using an agent who spammed me.
Please remove my name and email address from ALL of your databases.
Thank you.

I thought it was curt, and implied some bitchy, without being overtly rude.  And it made me feel a lot better.

While checking my email a few moments ago, I found the following reply.  Now I cannot stop laughing.

Ellen,
My apologies for emailing you.  I received your address from Tamarack Resort and they asked me to follow up with you.  I will immediately remove your email address and please accept my sincerest apologies.

First, she got my name wrong.  I have been called many many things in my life, but never Ellen.  Ever.  Classy, considering that my name is in my email address AND I signed the email I shot off to her.  That kind of attention to detail shows how much you really do care.

Second, she has the nerve to send out a spam in which *TRANSPORTATION* is her first item of concern, and she represents properties at Tamarack?  Ummmm.  Tamarack is a destination resort, two hours away from Boise.  Note that she goes on to highlight gas prices, while representing properties that are 140 miles away from the closest, large metropolitan area.

Finally, aren’t things like the number of bedrooms and bathrooms actually “a quality of life issue that may impact our ability to enjoy our homes”?  Because I’m thinking that cramming a family of six into a two bedroom, one bath home would severely impact my quality of life.

It may just be PMS, but this whole thing really irritated me.  So much so that I intend on finding out if anyone else here in Pleasantville received the same email.  I will keep you apprised as to when the proper head rolls.
